This month, as we bring awareness to Mental Health, it's important that we note how Jesus did the same. The Bible speaks a lot about the heart and mind, spiritual brokenness, and the condition of the soul. Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." This verse tells me that God is concerned about matters of the heart. In John chapter 14 and verse 27, Jesus is speaking to the Disciples who are troubled by the coming crucifixion. He tells them, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." This is a beautiful passage of scripture as we all have faced troubled hearts, it is comforting to know that the peace Jesus gives is wholesome and not temporary as the world gives. God speaks directly to anxiety and depression. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast all of our anxieties on Him because He cares for us. This means you are not alone and every worry you have can be lifted when you put them in His hands. Psalm 3:3 reminds us that He will lift our heads if we are feeling down. I believe through His word that He gives us reminders of His love for us and His desire for us to be whole not just spiritually but also mentally.
If you or someone you love is struggling with a mental health issue, please reach out to someone, you are not alone. Continue to read the Bible to find all of the ways God speaks to the heart.
